How are we different?

We’ve worked in the industry long enough to know what doesn’t work and that’s rushed placements, impersonal service and pressure to hit sales targets.  That’s never been our style.

From day one, we removed the typical sales targets commonly used in the industry and focused on delivering a service with which we could be proud.

One that puts people first, prioritises lasting relationships and gets results that feel right for everyone involved.

Whilst we embrace the role technology and AI now play in recruitment, our services are still led and managed by real recruiters who know what they’re doing…after all, recruitment is all about people!

Recruitment as it should be… professional, honest, results-focused and above all, human.

What it’s like to work with us…

Whether you’re hiring or job hunting, we’ll take the time to understand what really matters to you.  We’ll keep things professional, well-managed and friendly throughout.

We share our ideas, experience and insights every day.  So even if you’re only speaking to one of us, you’re getting the knowledge of the whole team behind you.

We’ll always be honest with you, even if that means offering a different perspective or asking questions you hadn’t expected.

Our goal is simple: to make sure your next hire, or the next step in your career, is the right one.

Who are we?

We’re a close-knit team who genuinely care about doing a good job. Many of us have worked together for years and we each bring experience across a wide range of industries.

You won’t find pushy sales talk or flashy promises here, just friendly, experienced recruiters who know how to do recruitment well and really enjoy doing it!

Annamarie Godward from The Recruitment Consultancy

I joined The Recruitment Consultancy in 2002 after many years in recruitment.  As Director and Manager of our Worthing office, I’m involved in every part of the day-to-day, and still get the same satisfaction from solving recruitment challenges as I did in my early career.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?
No two days are ever the same and that’s what I enjoy. I like being part of a business that can move quickly when needed, but still keeps quality and integrity at the core of everything we do.

What can clients or candidates expect when working with you?
I’m calm under pressure and focused on getting the right outcome. I’ll always listen, advise where I can, and work closely with our consultants to make sure we deliver what’s been promised.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
My daughter lives in Australia and my son is thinking of following her.  So, I’m learning to embrace long-distance parenting! I love cooking (homemade pizza is my signature dish) and I’m known for having a soft spot for rescue dogs. Let’s just say, I’m banned from visiting any shelters unattended…

Karen Gilbert, Manager of The Surrey & Sussex HR Forum - part of The Recruitment Consultancy

I’ve worked in recruitment for most of my career and joined The Recruitment Consultancy in 2017. I work closely with clients across a range of sectors and organise all the events for The Surrey & Sussex HR Forum, which is a big part of what we do.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?
I love that it’s fast-paced, people-focused and always evolving. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve helped someone take the next step in their career or supported a client in finding the right fit.

What can clients or candidates expect when working with you?
I’ll always be open, honest and full of energy. I like to keep things moving and make sure everyone feels looked after, informed and confident about the next step.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Life is pretty full on with two teenagers, our dog Indie and a love of cooking, travelling and exercise (not always in that order!). I am well known for not sitting still for very long and keep fit by going to the gym or racing to a hot yoga session – whilst juggling the demands of the family!

Lin Brighty from The Recruitment Consultancy

I’ve worked in people-focused roles throughout my career and genuinely care about helping others. I’m based in our Worthing office and support our consultants by speaking with candidates, understanding what they’re looking for and helping them feel confident and ready for their next step.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love being able to make a positive difference. Often, a reassuring chat and some practical advice is all it takes to help someone feel ready for a new challenge and it’s a great feeling to be part of that.

What can candidates expect when speaking with you?
I’ll listen, give you space to explain what you’re looking for and help you feel supported. I’ve worked in everything from travel to insurance and recruitment, so I know that every career path is different and I think that’s a good thing.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I’ve lived in Jamaica, Dubai and Grand Cayman and I love meeting people from all walks of life. These days, you’ll usually find me walking along the beach in Worthing with my very inexhaustible retriever who is almost as tall as me!

Lin Peter from The Recruitment Consultancy

After many years in estate agency, I made the move into recruitment and now support both our Guildford and Worthing offices. I work closely with candidates at all stages of their job search and enjoy helping people feel confident, capable and ready for their next move.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I’ve always loved working with people and building relationships. It’s a great feeling when you can help someone recognise their strengths and find a job they’re excited about.

What can candidates expect when speaking with you?
Friendly support and honest guidance. I take the time to listen, ask questions and understand what someone really wants from their next role and then do my best to help them get there.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I’m a bit of a fitness fan and enjoy getting to the gym. I also love walking my dog and spending time outdoors with my family. Sunshine, fresh air and movement – it’s the perfect reset.

Sharon Ellis, MD of The Recruitment Consultancy

I joined The Recruitment Consultancy in 1997 as part of the start-up team and now, as MD, I still play an active role in the day-to-day, alongside leading the wider business. I’m a Fellow of the REC and also founded The Surrey & Sussex HR Forum, our professional networking group with over 600 members.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?
Every day is different, and that’s what keeps it so interesting. I’ve always believed recruitment should be done properly – with care, clarity and respect for everyone involved. It’s incredibly rewarding when you get that balance right.

What can clients or candidates expect when working with you?
Straight talking, practical advice and a real focus on getting it right. I’ll always give my honest view and I’m happy to challenge where I think it’s helpful.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I spend as much time as I can with my granddaughter and now she is older, we both found a passion for cooking, especially Thai food. I also try to keep up with my very athletic Labrador, Frankie, who never seems to run out of energy!

Tanya Sones from The Recruitment Consultancy

After over 25 years in recruitment (how can it be that long?!), I now focus on the operational and marketing side of the business.  This means making sure everything on the technical side runs smoothly behind the scenes, while staying close to the day-to-day where I can.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the variety. One moment I’m reviewing a new marketing idea, the next I’m helping to shape our client strategy or jumping in to support a candidate – or getting involved with organising one of our HR Forum events. It’s fast-paced, people-focused and no two days are the same, which I love.

What keeps you busy outside of work?
Exercise classes, coastal walks and weekend escapes. I’m also working on improving my once-fluent French – I lived there years ago and have always wanted to pick it back up. Having spent some time in France recently, I am now doing it – hurrah! I love travel and campervanning, so I am very happy about the fact my two grown-up sons still want to join us when they can!

Wendy Hawthorn from The Recruitment Consultancy

Since 2004, I have managed all aspects of finance and payroll, including the smooth and timely payment of our temporary workforce. With a sharp eye for detail and a love of systems and order, I keep everything running behind the scenes so the rest of the team can focus on what they do best.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the variety and the satisfaction of getting everything spot on. Payroll, invoicing, accounts – it all needs to be accurate and timely, and I take real pride in making sure that happens every week.

What keeps you busy outside of work?
My two grandchildren keep me on my toes and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I also love a challenge and have completed some amazing charity treks, including along the Great Wall of China and through the mountains of Transylvania.

The Recruitment Consultancy's office mascot, Betsy the dog!

Betsy is our much-loved office cockerpoo and a firm favourite with the team.

She’s friendly, calm and always up for a cuddle or a quick hello – especially when anyone is visiting the office.

Whether she’s snoozing under a desk or quietly keeping an eye on things (which might involve a sudden drop of a biscuit at ‘tea’ time!), Betsy brings an extra smile to all our faces : )

What others say…

What others say…

We’ve worked with small independents, growing teams and large organisations, and many of our clients and candidates stay with us for years. That kind of trust isn’t built overnight. It comes from doing things properly and consistently.

Oakleaf Charity Logo

We proudly support Oakleaf Enterprise, a local mental health charity supporting people aged 16+ in Surrey since 1997.

Addressing issues like social isolation, unemployment, wellbeing, and discrimination, Oakleaf actively supports hundreds of people managing mental ill-health at any one time.

They provide a wide range of wellbeing activities and support groups, work-related training and employment guidance as well as a counselling service of up to 18 sessions.

Many Oakleaf clients experience social isolation due to their illnesses, often leaving their homes solely for Oakleaf activities.
